English Classes

We regret to say our classes are full for the academic year 2015 – 2016. Please register in September 2016. Information about timing and dates will be posted nearer the time.

Our aim is to create a welcoming, warm, safe environment where women can grow in confidence in their English and make friends with women from different backgrounds. Our informal English classes run three mornings a week on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays while children under three are looked after in the crèche. The classes run during term time and are £5 per term; with registration for classes happens at the beginning of September each year. We also run intermittent Craft and Conversation classes.

Southall Churches Night Shelter

Over the winter period St John's, in conjunction with other churches in Southall, offers support, friendship, overnight accommodation, meals and spiritual care to those who are homeless in Southall, whatever faith or ethnic background people are. Please find Nadia Evans at Church on Sunday to find out how you can get involved.

Meetings for Better Understanding

Meetings for Better Understanding are designed to be a safe space for different faith communities to get to know one another through food, conversation and respectful discussions about topics relating to faith. The format is structured to avoid arguing - as can often happen in a debate.

Generally there is a speaker from each faith talking on a pre-agreed subject such as prayer or fasting and explaining what it means in their faith. Following this there is an opportunity for those who attend to ask questions of the speakers on the topic as well discuss the topic among themselves in small mixed faith groups.

Currently we hold Meetings for Better Understanding once a term with Central Jamia Masjid. However, we are also open to engaging with others.
